Top-seeded Albany downs Maine 83-66 in A-East tournament
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Evan Singletary scored 19 points, 14 in the first half, and top-seeded Albany beat No. 8 seed Maine 83-66 in the quarterfinals of the America East tournament on Wednesday.
Albany jumped out to a 26-9 lead, with 14 points by Singletary on 3-of-4 shooting from distance, and led 46-25 at the break.
The Black Bears led by as many as 26 points in the second half.
Sam Rowley had 10 points and 11 rebounds to help Albany (22-8) hold a 40-19 rebounding advantage, including 15-5 on the offensive end.
Both teams shot over 46 percent and hit 11 3-pointers apiece, but Albany went to the free throw line 23 times compared to just seven for Maine.
Aaron Calixte scored 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting for Maine (3-27).
Albany, led by A-East Coach of the Year Will Brown, will face No. 4 seed New Hampshire on Sunday.
