Bethune-Cookman takes down Florida A&M 55-54
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Ricky Johnson scored 12 points and Mario Moody scored 11, had eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals to lead Bethune-Cookman past Florida A&M 55-54 on Saturday.
Bethune-Cookman (11-16, 8-5 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) has won five of its last six. The win ensures the Wildcats their first non-losing month (4-1) since February 2013.
Moody gave Bethune-Cookman a 53-51 lead with a dunk off a steal in the backcourt with 3:36 left.
Malcolm Bernard led FAMU with 27 points and six rebounds. He missed the Rattlers' last shot with 15 seconds left.
FAMU (7-17, 3-8) started the game with 10-0 run and held the Wildcats scoreless for the first five minutes.
It was the 163rd meeting between the two teams, the most in any series between two HBCU schools. The Rattlers lead the series 98-65, but the Wildcats have won the last five meetings.
