Taylor, Wintering lead Portland past Sacramento State 81-73
PORTLAND, Ore. -- Gabe Taylor and Alec Wintering scored 17 points apiece to help Portland beat Sacramento State 81-73 Saturday night.
Wintering made 11 of 16 free throws and finished with five rebounds and six assists. D'Marques Tyson added 13 points for Portland (5-6). Taylor made 7 of 12 field goals.
Five different Pilots scored during a 14-3 run that extended to Portland's lead to 16 late in the first half before going into the break leading 46-32.
Sacramento State twice cut its deficit to eight points midway through the second half but Portland answered with 5-0 runs each time. An 8-2 run, including back-to-back 3-pointers from Cody Demps and Justin Strings, pulled the Hornets within six with 19 seconds to play, but a dunk by Taylor 10 seconds later capped the scoring.
Demps led Sacramento State (6-3) with 20 points and five assists. Strings scored 15.
