VMI earns first road win, holds off Gardner-Webb late, 76-75
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- QJ Peterson scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and clinched VMI's 76-75 win over Gardner-Webb by knocking down 3 of 4 from the line in the final minute Monday night.
It was the first road win for the Keydets (4-6) in six games.
Adonis Burbage connected on a 3-pointer to cut the VMI lead to a point with :11 remaining, but Harold McBride's layup with :02 left would not fall and Burbage grabbed the offensive rebound but could not launch a shot as time expired.
Trey Chapman and Julian Eleby scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead VMI, which shot 28 of 64 from the floor (43.8 percent), including 8 of 27 from long range.
Tyrell Nelson and Isaiah Ivey scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead the Bulldogs (5-8), who shot 40 percent from both the floor (24 of 60) and deep (8 of 20).
