Houston Baptist holds off New Orleans 73-69
NEW ORLEANS -- Reveal Chukwujekwu nailed a late 3-point jumper and made three free throws down the stretch as Houston Baptist held off New Orleans 73-69 in Southland Conference play Saturday night.
Anthony Odunsi hit 6 of 8 field goal attempts and made 15 of 18 from the line for 28 points, Chukwujekwu finished with 14 and Colter Lasher added 10 for Houston Baptist (10-7, 5-0), which has won six straight games. Josh Ibarra added eight points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The teams stayed close throughout but the Huskies outscored New Orleans 10-6 in the final two minutes.
Christavious Gill had a 3-point play with 1:02 remaining to pull the Privateers to 67-66 but Ibarra, Chukwujekwu and Odunsi made all six free throws offered down the stretch to seal the win.
Gill finished with 15 points, Erik Thomas and Cameron Reed added 10 apiece for New Orleans (5-10, 1-3).
