Ali leads Texas A&M-Corpus Christi past New Orleans 65-57
NEW ORLEANS -- Hameed Ali hit three 3-pointers and finished with 18 points -- including Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's final 11 -- and Ehab Amin scored 15 on 7-of-14 shooting to help the Islanders beat New Orleans 65-57 Monday night.
Ali, who came in ranked third in Division I with 2.79 steals per game, added four steals and four assists.
TAMU-CC (19-6, 10-3 Southland Conference) made just 23 of 58 (39.7 percent) from the field and was outrebounded 43-26 but committed just nine turnovers and had a season-high 14 steals. It was the most steals by the Islanders since recording 14 in a 66-61 loss to Texas State on Feb. 15, 2011.
A pair of layups by Michael Zeno gave New Orleans (8-15, 4-8) a 4-3 lead fewer than two minutes in but Brandon Pye hit two 3s during a 10-4 run that gave Texas A&M-CC the lead for good.
Zeno led the Privateers with 12 points. Travin Thibodeaux had a career-high 15 rebounds.
