BANGOR, Maine -- Garet Beal made six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 23 points, and Maine beat Longwood 92-82 on Wednesday for the Lancers' fourth straight loss.
Troy Reid-Knight hit consecutive 3-pointers midway through the second half -- as part of nine Maine 3's in the second half -- for a 69-52 lead. The Black Bears made 6 of 8 free throws in the final 1:19 to seal it.
Issac Vann and Aaron Calixte added 14 points apiece for Maine (1-3). Calixte also had six rebounds and seven assists. The Black Bears made 16 of 33 3-pointers (48.5 percent) with two apiece from Vann, Calixte, Kevin Little, and Reid-Knight.
Freshman Chris Shields scored a season-best 19 points for Longwood (2-4). Lotanna Nwogbo had 17 points and nine rebounds, Leron Fisher scored 15, and Khris Lane added 11 points and nine boards.
Shields scored nine of Longwood's first 18 points.
