Morgan State holds off D-II Goldey-Beacom 66-62
BALTIMORE -- Phillip Carr had 14 points and 17 rebounds, Andre Horne scored 15, and Morgan State won its home opener, beating Division II Goldey-Beacom 66-62 on Monday night.
The sophomore Carr hit two free throws with 14.8 seconds left to push Morgan State's lead to 65-60. He notched his first career double-double as well as a career high in rebounds for the second straight game.
The Bears (2-3) led 63-52 on Carr's free throws with 57 seconds left before Goldey-Beacom scored eight points in a flurry. Corey Taite finished in the paint, and Jarrel Lane and Shakeem Wilson hit back-to-back 3s to make it a three-point deficit with 26 seconds left.
Taite hit another quick layup after Carr's foul shots, but Carr hit 1 of 2 from the line to seal it with 2 seconds to go.
Wilson and Daniel Cooper had 13 points to lead the Lightning.
