Maryland-Eastern Shore beats Morgan State 80-71
BALTIMORE -- Bakari Copeland scored 23 points and Maryland-Eastern Shore beat Morgan State 80-71 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season finale for both teams.
Copeland made 13 of 15 from the line and grabbed six rebounds for UMES (10-21, 7-9). Dominique Elliott had 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting with nine boards, Ryan Andino had 11 points and Isaac Taylor added 10. The Hawks shot over 59 percent overall, outscored the Bears 40-20 in the paint and won the rebound battle 38-26.
Morgan State (8-21, 6-10) was led by Phillip Carr with 17 points and seven rebounds. Rasean Simpson scored 16 points and Cedric Blossom added 15.
UMES led 41-33 at intermission, and after the half quickly ran the score up to 55-37 following a dunk by Derrico Peck. Morgan State chipped away, though, and got the deficit back to four with 4:11 left on a layup by Blossom. The Hawks responded with a seven-point spurt to push it back to double digits.
