Willis scores 23 points as NJIT defeats UMass-Lowell 90-77
NEWARK, N.J. -- Winfield Willis scored 23 points with four of NJIT's 10 3-pointers as the Highlanders defeated UMass-Lowell 90-77 on Saturday.
The Highlanders (5-3) remained undefeated (4-0) on their home court and saw all five starters score at least nine points. Ky Howard and Tim Coleman scored 15 points each -- Howard with six assists -- Damon Lynn scored 14 points with eight assists and three steals.
NJIT scored 22 points at the foul line in 29 tries as the River Hawks were called for 22 fouls. UMass-Lowell was 7-for-10 from the line.
NJIT had 20 assists on 29 field goals.
Josh Gantz scored a season-high 18 points to lead the River Hawks, Tyler Livingston scored 14, Isaac White 11 and Ryan Jones and Jahad Thomas scored 10 each. This was the fifth game UMass-Lowell had at least four double-digit scorers.
