Lynn with 20 points, NJIT edges UMBC 86-83
NEWARK, N.J. -- Damon Lynn scored 20 points with six assists, five rebounds and six steals as NJIT edged UMBC 86-83 on Saturday.
Lynn finished with 7-of-16 shooting for the Highlanders (9-6). Tim Coleman and Ky Howard scored 19 points apiece and Terrence Smith had 14 points and six rebounds. The team averaged 50.9 percent shooting from the field and 73.3 percent from the line.
Lynn sank a 3-pointer early in the second half to give the Highlanders a 43-42 lead and they followed that with a 12-5 surge to go up 55-47 with 9:36 to play. Jairus Lyles sank a pair of 3-pointers in the final 10 seconds to bring UMBC to within two, 85-83, but the Highlanders held on for the win.
UMBC took a 15-4 lead early and had a 36-35 edge at the break.
Lyles led the Retrievers (4-11) with 30 points, five assists and six rebounds.
