Lipscomb downs NJIT 81-72 to win 3rd straight
NEWARK, N.J. -- Garrison Mathews had 19 points and nine rebounds, Nathan Moran added 18 on six 3-pointers and Lipscomb beat NJIT 81-72 on Wednesday night to win its third straight.
Cam Miller scored 12, Eli Pepper added 11 and J.C. Hampton 10 with six assists for the Bisons (7-16, 3-3 Atlantic Sun), who shot 15 of 35 from long distance.
Trailing by nine at halftime, NJIT gained on an 11-3 run and closed to within 43-42 in the second half on Ky Howard's free throw.
Moran hit three 3-pointers in three minutes and the Bisons surged ahead 66-58 after a 12-2 run with 7:27 to play.
Tim Coleman hit a 3 and the Highlanders pulled to within 74-68, but Pepper scored the next five points.
Coleman and Damon Lynn scored 17 apiece for NJIT (11-11, 2-4) and Howard added 14 with nine rebounds.
