Davis, Fischer lead BYU to 85-54 win over Utah Valley State
PROVO, Utah -- Kyle Davis scored 17 with 20 rebounds -- both career highs -- and Chase Fischer had 20 points to help BYU beat Utah Valley State 85-54 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Davis, who sat out last season after transferring from Utah State, made 6 of 12 field goals and blocked two shots. Kyle Collinsworth finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for BYU, which never trailed and outrebounded Utah Valley State 69-36, including 22-7 on the offensive glass. It was BYU's most rebounds in a game since grabbing 70 against Santa Clara on Dec. 23, 1967.
Konner Frey led Utah Valley State with 19 points while Ivory Young scored 13.
The Wolverines shot just 27 percent from the field and 17 percent from 3-point range, including 1 of 15 in the second half.
