Weber St. clinches Big Sky title, beats E. Washington 79-77
CHENEY, Wash. -- Joel Bolomboy nailed a game-winning 3-pointer with 19 seconds left as he scored 26 points and helped Weber State defeat Eastern Washington 79-77 on Saturday to clinch the Big Sky Conference championship in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Weber State (23-8, 15-3) earned the No. 1 seed to the Big Sky Tournament in Reno, Nevada. Eastern (16-14 10-8), the defending conference champ, is the No. 6 seed and plays 11th-seeded Northern Arizona on Tuesday.
Bolomboy missed two games a week ago with a knee injury but made his presence felt in the final minute Saturday. The 6-foot-9 Bolomboy, double-teamed down low, juked, spun for a one-handed dunk and converted the 3-point play for a 76-75 lead with 57 seconds left. After EWU tied, Bolomboy drained the winning 3 from the left elbow on a pass from Jeremy Senglin.
EWU's Austin McBroom (30 points) was fouled with three seconds left, made the first free throw and intentionally missed the second but Bolomboy snagged the rebound.
