Hofstra fends off Elon, 80-76
ELON, N.C. -- Rokas Gustys scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, including eight offensive, and Hofstra beat Elon 80-76 on Saturday.
Juan'ya Green finished with 18 points, eight boards, and seven assists while Ameen Tanksley had 17 points for Hofstra (11-5, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association,) which has won five of its last six games.
With 2:41 left Tanner Samson hit a 3-pointer for Elon (11-6, 2-2) to tie the game at 73. But two straight baskets by Tanksley fueled a 7-1 scoring spurt for Hofstra which gave the Pride an 80-74 lead in the waning seconds. A Luke Eddy layup with two seconds left for the Phoenix produced the final score.
Samson scored 23 points and hit seven 3-pointers to lead Elon. Christian Hairston added 19 points and 13 rebounds, and Tyler Seibring finished with 16 points for the Phoenix.
