Hofstra claims share of CAA crown with 72-63 win
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Juan'ya Green had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Hofstra beat College of Charleston 72-63 Saturday to earn a share of the Colonial Athletic Association championship with UNC Wilmington.
Hofstra (22-8, 14-4) will be the top seed to the tournament over the Seahawks (22-7, 14-4), winning a tiebreaker because it swept Northeastern while the Seahawks split.
Hofstra and UNCW each had 4-2 records against James Madison, Towson and William & Mary, all tying for third at 11-7. Northeastern comes next in the standings at 9-9.
After taking a 32-26 halftime lead, the Pride used a 14-6 run to push the lead to 46-32 with 15:22 to play. Brian Bernardi hit a layup with 11:25 to go to make it 53-39.
Charleston used a 12-6 run to cut its deficit to 59-51 on a pair of Cameron Johnson free throws with 8:06 to go. Johnson hit a 3 with 2:48 to play to cut it to seven but the Cougars got no closer.
Marquise Pointer had 19 points and eight rebounds for Charleston (16-13, 8-10).
