Louisiana-Monroe outlasts Georgia Southern 83-76
MONROE, La. -- Majok Deng scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Demondre Harvey had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Louisiana-Monroe withstood 16 3-pointers by Georgia Southern to take an 83-76 victory Thursday night.
Justin Roberson added 18 points for the Warhawks (18-12, 14-5 Sun Belt), who took a 10-3 lead and never trailed thereafter, shooting 54 percent.
The Warhawks used a 9-0 lead with six points from Harvey to go ahead by 18 with 8:38 remaining. Hughes scored seven straight points in a 12-2 run to cut the lead to 78-73 with 1:33 to go. ULM went back up nine with 47 seconds left after getting a layup from Nick Coppola and two free throws from Deng while the Eagles (14-15, 10-9) missed two shots and turned the ball over.
Mike Hughes made five 3-pointers and scored 24 points for Georgia Southern, which shot 53 percent from the arc but only 38 percent overall. The Eagles last made 16 3-pointers on Feb. 25 against Appalachian State.
