Sampson helps Elon top Drexel 81-76
PHILADELPHIA -- Tanner Sampson scored 19 points and Elon topped Drexel 81-76 on Thursday night.
Sampson was 5 of 8 from the field with four 3-pointers and five assists. Brian Dawkins scored 14 points, Tyler Seibring had 12 and Dmitri Thompson added 11 for the Phoenix (15-13, 6-9 Colonial).
Terrell Allen led Drexel (3-23, 1-14) with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Tavon Allen scored 17 points with five assists, Kazembe Abif had 16 points with nine rebounds and Rodney Williams added 10 points.
Dawkins' layup with 6:45 to go tied it at 62 and Elon didn't trail again. Abif's jumper with 5:32 left got Drexel within one, but Sampson responded with a 3-pointer on the next possession and Drexel never caught up. Allen's layup with 12 seconds left got Drexel within three, but Sampson made a pair from the line to ice it.
