UNC-Wilmington handles James Madison 78-68 behind Ponder
WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Craig Ponder scored 19 points with four 3-pointers and UNC-Wilmington used a big first half to beat James Madison 78-68 on Saturday for its school-record 11th-straight win.
Chris Flemmings scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Jordon Talley added 15 with four assists and the Seahawks (20-5, 12-2) remain atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings. UNC-Wilmington shot 39 percent, but made 10 of 28 3-pointers and scored 19 points off 18 James Madison turnovers.
The Seahawks trailed early, but took control with a 15-1 run in which Denzel Ingram and Flemmings made 3-pointers and led 42-29 at halftime.
The teams traded baskets in the second half and the Dukes trailed by double digits the whole way, with the Seahawks leading by 19 -- their largest lead of the game -- with 3:44 to play.
Tom Vodanovich led James Madison (19-8, 9-5) with 17 points and Winston Grays III added 15.
