Liberty earns season sweep of Gardner Webb with 86-81 win
LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Caleb Homesley hit five 3s and scored 22 points and Liberty snapped a three-game losing streak with an 86-81 win over Gardner Webb on Saturday.
The game was the regular season finale for both teams, with the Big South Conference tournament beginning Thursday. The win gives Liberty the season sweep and thus the tie-breaker over the Bulldogs for a first round by into Friday's quarterfinal round.
John Dawson and Lovell Cabbil each added 16 points for Liberty (13-18, 10-8), which shot 52 percent and hit 17 3-pointers.
Isaiah Ivey scored a career-high 32 points to lead Gardner Webb (15-15, 10-8). Adonis Burbage added 11 points.
Ryan Kemrite buried a 3-pointer for Liberty which gave the Flames a 68-67 lead with 5:40 left. The Flames held the advantage for the rest of the contest, which they extended to eight-points (85-77) after two Cabbil free throws with 29 seconds to go.
