LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Omar Prewitt scored 16 points and William & Mary converted 7 of 10 from the free throw line down the stretch to hold off Liberty, 70-59 on Tuesday night.
Liberty cut William & Mary's lead to three, 55-52 with 7:35 left in the game on Anthony Field's layup, but the Flames could draw no closer and the Tribe pulled away from the line.
William & Mary (2-0) converted 18 of 28 free throw attempts in the game and was 25 of 45 from the field for the game (55.6 percent), including 2 of 9 from distance.
Sean Sheldon contributed 12 points for the Tribe and Terry Tarpey added 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Fields finished with 13 points to lead the Flames (2-1). Evan Maxwell and A.C. Reid each contributed 12 points and Ryan Kemrite and Lovell Cabbil added 10 each.
