Davis' late free throws lifts Radford past Liberty, 56-52
RADFORD, Va. -- Rashun Davis sandwiched four free throws around a layup in the final 1:07 to lift Radford to a 56-52 win over Liberty in the Big South Conference opener for both schools Thursday night.
Lovell Cabbil hit back-to-back 3-pointers to stake Liberty (3-5, 0-1) to a 52-49 lead with 2:35 to play, but the Flames' offense went silent the rest of the way.
Davis tied the game with two free throws with 1:07 to go, then got to the rim for a layup to give the Highlanders (5-3, 1-0) the lead, 54-52 with 22 seconds to play. He added two insurance free throws with 3 seconds left.
Davis finished with 16 points to lead Radford, with Ed Polite Jr. adding another 10 points off the bench.
Evan Maxwell scored 24 points to lead Liberty, with Cabbil adding 15 more.
