Temple cruises to 72-62 win over Memphis
PHILADELPHIA -- Jaylen Bond scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Temple past Memphis for a 72-62 win Thursday night.
Quenton DeCosey added 13 points for Temple (19-10, 13-4 American), Josh Brown and Devin Coleman had 12 each and Obi Enechionyia 10. The Owls shot 41 percent and had 17 assists on 26 field goals.
Temple opened with a 9-1 run that included a 3-pointer from Coleman and led the rest of the way, taking a 39-30 advantage into the break.
Memphis (16-14, 7-10) chipped away in the second half and cut the deficit to three with Avery Woodson's 3-pointer to make it 60-57 but it was as close the Owls got. Back-to-back buckets from Bond and Enechionyia stretched the lead back to seven and Temple padded it down the stretch.
Ricky Tarrant Jr. paced Memphis with 18 points, Shaq Goodwin had 16 and Dedric Lawson added 13 and 11 rebounds.
