Chris Clemons late 3-pointer lifts Campbell past VMI, 66-65
BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Chris Clemons hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left and Campbell pulled out a 66-65 win over VMI Monday night,
The non-conference win is the Camels' third straight overall.
Clemons already is a two-time conference Freshman of the Week award winner. His game-winning 3-pointer gave him 10 points, putting him in double-figure scoring for each of the team's first six games.
QJ Peterson's jumper with 5:11 left in the game gave VMI a 62-54 lead, but Campbell (4-2, 1-0 Big South) battled back. Curtis Phillips hit a pair of free throws, Shane Whitfield hit a jumper and a tip-in and Clemons hit a 3-pointer for a 63-62 lead.
VMI (2-3) got two free throws from Peterson and a third from Phillip Anglade for a 65-63 lead with :14 left.
D.J. Mason led Campbell with 16 points.
Peterson finished with 20 points for VMI, with Julian Eleby adding another 18.
