Wright State gets by Youngstown State 87-81
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Michael Karena, who came in averaging 9.0 points, scored 26 points with eight rebounds and Wright State beat Youngstown State 87-81 on Thursday night.
Karena was 11 of 15 from the field, helping Wright State (18-12, 12-5 Horizon) to shoot over 61 percent, despite the Raiders making just 3 of 12 beyond the arc. Mark Alstork scored 21 points and Joe Thomasson had nine points and eight boards.
The Penguins (10-20, 5-12) were led by Cameron Morse with 29 points. Matt Donlan scored 18 points with six boards.
Jorden Kaufman's jumper with 8:22 to go in the first half pulled the Penguins into a tie at 24. WSU's Biggie Minnis responded with a layup, and the Raiders never trailed again. Youngstown got within five with 1:35 to go on Morse's 3-pointer, but Wright State made 7 of 10 from the line down the stretch.
