Rodriguez, Binghamton beat UMBC 66-57
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Willie Rodriguez had 24 points and Marlon Beck II added 19 and Binghamton beat the University of Maryland, Baltimore County 66-57 on Wednesday night for the Bearcats' fourth-straight win in the series.
Rodriguez was 7-of-12 shooting from the field, hit all nine of his free throw attempts and grabbed eight rebounds for Binghamton (5-15, 2-5 America East). The Bearcats hit 8 of 21 3-pointers and 14 of 16 free throws.
Binghamton opened up a 32-23 lead at halftime behind 10 points from Rodriguez and 11 by Beck. Rodriguez scored seven-straight Binghamton points to extend its lead to 41-28 early in the second half.
Rodney Elliott and Jourdan Grant scored 10 points apiece for UMBC (5-17, 1-6). The Retrievers were held to 19-of-49 shooting (39 percent).
Elliott's 3-pointer with 5:24 left pulled UMBC to 55-47, but Binghamton answered with a 7-2 run and the Bearcats led by at least nine points the rest of the way.
