Westendorf's late 3 lifts Seattle past Utah Valley 72-69
SEATTLE -- Brendan Westendorf scored 21 points and drilled a 3-pointer as time expired to lift Seattle to a 72-69 win over Utah Valley Saturday night, taking over sole possession of fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
Westendorf has a made buzzer-beaters a specialty. He hit a running 41-footer at the buzzer to beat Chicago State earlier this month and hit one at the end of each half against Utah Valley. For the game-winner, Westendorf took the inbound pass, dribbled up court and hit a contested 3 from the wing.
Westendorf's first-half buzzer beater sent the Redhawks (13-14, 7-6) into intermission with a 38-34 advantage. The second came after Ivory Young hit a 3-pointer with six second left to pull the Wolverines into a 69-all tie.
Playing in Seattle's final home game, Westendorf hit 9 of 18 from the field, including 2 of 5 from beyond the arc. William Powell added 18 points.
Konner Frey and Ivory Young each scored 17 points for Utah Valley (12-16, 6-7).
