St. Bonaventure holds off George Washington 64-57
SAINT BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- Jaylen Adams scored 19 points and St. Bonaventure held off a late charge to beat George Washington 64-57 on Saturday.
Both teams struggled at the start -- the score was tied at 4 after 7 1/2 minutes. Marcus Posley's layup late in the first put St. Bonaventure up by eight and the Bonnies led 24-19 at the break. GW was just 8 of 30 from the field before intermission.
St. Bonaventure stretched the lead to 15 with 4:39 to go after a six-point spurt, but GW used a 13-2 run to cut it to four with 1:05 remaining. But the Colonials were forced to foul, and the Bonnies made 5 of 6 from the line in the last 42 seconds to seal it.
Denzel Gregg and Posley finished with 11 points apiece for St. Bonaventure (17-6, 9-3 Atlantic 10).
George Washington (18-7, 7-5) was led by Patricio Garino with 21 points.
