Massachusetts hangs on for 70-64 win over George Mason
AMHERST, Mass. -- Jabarie Hinds scored 17 points with 6-for-12 shooting to lead Massachusetts to a 70-64 win over George Mason on Sunday.
Trey Davis added 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Antwan Space had 15 points for UMass (12-14, 5-9 Atlantic 10), which hit 25 of 59 from the field and got 18 assists.
The Minutemen opened the game with a 3-pointer from Davis and never trailed, taking a 36-22 advantage into the break and holding off a George Mason rally in the second half.
The Patriots (9-18, 3-11) outscored UMass 42-34 in the final 20 minutes, trimming the deficit to 62-59 with 2:32 left on Jaire Grayer's bucket. Donte Clark then stretched the advantage back to five with a layup at the other end and UMass clinched it with 6-for-6 shooting from the foul line.
Otis Livingston II had 15 points to lead four Patriots in double figures.
