UAB downs FAU 73-70 behind Brown's 17 points
BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Robert Brown scored 17 points, William Lee added 15 and UAB closed the regular season with a 73-70 win over FAU on Saturday to sweep the series against the Owls.
It's the fifth-straight win for the Conference USA champion Blazers (26-5, 16-2), who are the top seed in next week's tournament.
Trailing by 13 at halftime, FAU pulled within 66-62 on Jeantal Cylla's layup with 4:32 to go, but FAU stayed ahead 70-66 on a layup by Tosin Mehinti.
Adonis Filer hit a 3-pointer to cut the Owls' deficit to 70-69 with 27 seconds left, then Lee blocked Cylla's potential go-ahead layup.
Dirk Williams hit a pair of free throws for a 72-69 UAB lead. Filer split a pair of free throws in the final two seconds and Lee hit a free throw to ice it.
Cylla scored 16 points and Ronald Delph added 14 with 13 rebounds for the Owls (7-24, 5-13), who have lost six straight.
