Abilene Christian upsets Houston Baptist 79-72
ABILENE, Texas -- Jaylen Franklin scored 21 points, Parker Wentz added 18 on five 3-pointers and Abilene Christian used a big first half to upset Houston Baptist 79-72 on Tuesday night, ending the Huskies' 10-game winning streak and handing them their first Southland Conference defeat.
Led by Franklin's 16 points, the Wildcats shot 63 percent in the first half, scored 16 off of nine Huskies' turnovers and led 50-28 at halftime.
Houston Baptist scored 16 unanswered points to pull within 58-50 in the second half, then gained on a 12-1 run and trailed 75-72 after Colter Lasher's 3-pointer with 45 seconds left.
Franklin made a layup on the Wildcats' next possession and Jaren Lewis hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to seal it.
Hayden Howell scored 12 points and Jalen Little added 11 for Abilene Christian (10-12, 5-4).
Anthony Odunsi led Houston Baptist (14-8, 8-1) with 22 points, Lasher added 14 and Josh Ibarra had 10.
