Old Dominion downs Western Kentucky 59-56 to sweep series
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Trey Freeman scored 26 points on 11-of-27 shooting and Old Dominion beat Western Kentucky 59-56 on Thursday night for the Hilltoppers' third straight loss.
Brandan Stith scored 16, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked five shots for the Monarchs (15-11, 8-5 Conference USA), which beat Western Kentucky 68-62 on Jan. 21.
Old Dominion shot 42.2 percent from the field and led 26-23 at halftime behind Stith's 10 points.
The Hilltoppers rallied to a 37-32 advantage on Aleksej Rostov's 3-pointer and the lead traded hands six times before Freeman's jumper put the Monarchs up 57-56 with 31 seconds left.
Freeman iced it with two free throws and Western Kentucky's Aaron Cosby missed a 3 at the buzzer.
Freeman has scored 21 or more points in 11 of the last 12 games.
Cosby led the Hilltoppers (12-14, 4-9) with 15 points and Rostov and Fredrick Edmond added 10 apiece.
