Jackson, McAdams lead Akron over Cleveland State 65-53
KENT, Ohio -- Antino Jackson scored 12 points and Reggie McAdams added 10 to help Akron pull away early and hold on to beat Cleveland State 65-53 on Saturday night in a season opener for both teams.
McAdams opened the scoring with a 4-point play and the Zips went on a 17-0 run in the middle of the first half to build a 40-22 lead at the break.
Jackson had five assists and McAdams shot 3 of 3 from 3-point range.
Terrell Hales' dunk and jumper on consecutive possessions pulled Cleveland State within 49-38 midway through the second half.
Akron answered with a 12-2 run capped by McAdams' 3-pointer to lead by 21 with 5:26 left. The Vikings got no closer than the final score from there.
Andre Yates had 13 points and Demonte Flannigan added 11 for Cleveland State.
