McKnight scores 20, Miami (Ohio) upsets Akron 77-64
OXFORD, Ohio -- Geovonie McKnight scored 20 points, Abdoulaye Harouna made four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 16 points and Miami (Ohio) upset Mid-American Conference East Division leader Akron 77-64 on Tuesday night.
Eric Washington had 13 points, seven assists and five steals for the RedHawks (10-18, 4-11), who scored 19 points off of 16 Akron turnovers and made 20 of 23 free throws.
Trailing 32-27 at halftime, the Zips pulled ahead 40-38 on Antino Jackson's 3-pointer, but the RedHawks rallied to an 11-point lead on McKnight's free throw with 2:03 left.
Jackson pulled the Zips within 69-61 with a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left, but McKnight made two free throws and Chris Bryant dunked, then blocked Jackson's attempted 3-pointer.
The Zips missed two 3-pointers in the final 10 seconds.
Isaiah Johnson scored 21 and Jackson added 14 for Akron (21-7, 10-5).
