Valenti scores 20 points in Canisius' 81-66 win over Marist
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Phil Valenti scored 20 points and had eight rebounds and Canisius pulled away in the second half to beat Marist 81-66 on Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak.
Valenti was 7 of 15 from the field and made three 3-pointers for the Golden Griffins (12-17, 7-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who 50 percent. Kassius Robertson was 8 of 11 for 19 points and Malcom McMillan 5 of 9 for 15 points along with seven assists.
David Knudsen made 4 of 5 3-point attempts and scored 16 points, Ryan Funk added 15 and Kristinn Palsson 13 for the Red Foxes (5-22, 2-16), who shot 39 percent and dropped their fifth straight game.
The game was tied at 36-all at halftime but the Canisius outscored Marist 28-13 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to go in front by double figures for good.
