IPFW holds off Denver in wild finish 88-84
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Max Landis scored 30 points on 9-for-13 shooting and passed out seven assists to help IPFW hold off Denver 88-84 Saturday night and maintain a share of first place in the Summit conference standings with South Dakota State.
IPFW led 76-64 after DeAngelo Stewart hit a pair of free throws with 54 seconds left. But Thomas Neff hit a 3, Nate Engesser and Marcus Byrd each made back-to-back 3s, then Engesser hit another 3. With 12 seconds to play the Pioneers trailed 85-82.
From there Stewart made a pair of free throws and Landis made 1 of 2 from the line to blunt the comeback.
IPFW (20-7, 9-3) got 20 points from Michael Calder and 14 apiece from Joe Reed and John Konchar.
Byrd finished with a career high 28 points shooting 10-for-19-8 for 12 from 3. Engesser added 24 points and Neff had 21 for Denver (13-13, 5-8).
Denver set a school record with 20 3-pointers made in 32 attempts (62.5 percent).
