Mills point lifts Miami (Ohio) past Western Michigan, 45-44
KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Geovonie McKnight scored 15 points and Rod Mills made his only point in the game count, hitting the first of two free throws with eight seconds left to give Miami (Ohio) a 45-44 win over Western Michigan Tuesday night.
The RedHawks total was their lowest of the season, one point fewer than the 46 Miami scored in a loss to Ball State.
Down by seven with 3:48 to play, Western Michigan came back to tie it behind a Thomas Wilder 3-pointer, a Seth Dugan layup and two Wilder free throws. Eric Washington put Miami back in front with a layup with 45 seconds left, but Wilder knotted it again with two free throws with 39 seconds to play.
Washington added 13 points for Miami (9-15, 3-8 MAC), which scored 21 of its 45 points from the free-throw line.
Wilder finished with 13 for Western Michigan (9-15, 3-8).
