Middle Tennessee edges D-II Alaska-Anchorage 75-72
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Perrin Buford scored 18 on 7-of-14 shooting and Giddy Potts added 16 points, including a pair of free throws with three seconds left, to help Middle Tennessee escape with a 75-72 win over Division II Alaska-Anchorage in the Great Alaska Shootout on Thursday night.
Joshua Phillips scored six in a row for Middle Tennessee (2-1) to extend its lead to 15 with seven minutes left.
Sekou Wiggs scored 11 points and Diante Mitchell added six during a 19-2 Anchorage run that put the Seawolves up for the first time since the opening minutes, 66-64, with 2:18 to play.
Quavius Copeland hit 4 of 6 free throws and Reggie Upshaw made a layup as Middle Tennessee scored six-straight point to make it 70-66 with 22 second remaining.
The Blue Raiders made 5 of 6 free throws from there to seal it.
Wiggs led Anchorage with 33 points.
