Bass leads Detroit to an 88-80 win over Cleveland State
DETROIT -- Paris Bass matched his career high with 28 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, collected four steals, and blocked three shots as Detroit won its second straight Horizon League game to start the season, topping Cleveland State 88-80 Monday night.
Cleveland State made a 7-1 run in the final minutes, cutting the Detroit lead to five, 85-80 with 1:37 left, but Bass pulled down a Kenny Carpenter miss and hit the second of two free throws after drawing the foul to stall the Vikings' momentum. He then grabbed the carom off a Rob Edwards miss. Antwon Wilson converted a pair free throw attempts to set the final margin.
Wilson finished with 19 points for the Titans (8-5, 2-0 Horizon).
Edwards hit 10 of 18 from the field, including 3 of 5 from deep, to finish with 26 points for Cleveland State (5-10, 0-2). Andre Yates added 14 points.
