Delaware State tops Norfolk State 67-64 after big rally
DOVER, Del. -- Kavon Waller scored 18 points and Delaware State used a big second-half run to defeat Norfolk State 67-64 on Saturday in a game marred by two ejections with less than a second remaining.
Devon Morgan's 3-pointer with five seconds left put the Hornets up 65-62. After D'Shon Taylor's basket for Norfolk State with .02 on the clock there was a physical altercation that resulted in four fouls, two technical and two ejections -- Jordan Butler of Norfolk State and DeVaughn Mallory of Delaware State.
Morgan made two free throws to close out the scoring.
The Hornets (7-20, 5-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) trailed 38-26 at the break but opened the second half with a 20-4 run as Norfolk State didn't get its second field goal until 10:17 remained. Norfolk State chipped away tough, and Butler tied it with two free throws with 23 seconds to play.
Taylor and Jeff Short had 15 apiece for Norfolk State (13-14, 9-3), which could have tied Hampton for first place with a win.
