IU Indianapolis Jaguars @ Indiana State Sycamores
IUPUI holds on to top Indiana State 72-70
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Darell Combs scored 12 of his 16 points in the final 10:15, Evan Hall finished with 13, and IUPUI held on to defeat Indiana State 72-70 in the season opener for both teams on Friday.
Combs made 5 of 6 free throws in the final 28 seconds as Indiana State was forced to foul down the stretch.
IUPUI went scoreless for nearly six minutes spanning the first and second halves, and the Sycamores went on a 14-0 run to take a 42-38 lead. But a pair of made free throws from Marcellus Barksdale and a 3-pointer from Combs gave the Jaguars a lead they'd never relinquish midway through the second half.
Khristian Smith scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds for Indiana State while Devonte Brown finished with 25 points.
