Western Carolina Catamounts @ The Citadel Bulldogs
Brummitt scores 24, W. Carolina holds off The Citadel 102-97
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Torrion Brummitt had 24 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and Western Carolina used two late free throws from Rhett Harrelson to hold off The Citadel 102-97 in front of a record crowd of 4,424 on Saturday, avenging an earlier one-point loss to the Bulldogs.
Brummitt sailed in for a layup with just under a minute to go, lifting Western Carolina to a 100-91 lead, but Matt Frierson nailed back-to-back 3-pointers to bring The Citadel to within 100-97 with 20 seconds left.
Harrelson, who finished with 17 points, made both free throws after being fouled with 15 seconds to play, and Frierson missed a final 3-pointer.
The Catamounts (13-16, 8-8 Southern), who won their final road game of the season, got 19 points from Mike Brown and 17 by Devin Peterson.
Quinton Marshall scored 22 points for The Citadel (10-19, 3-13), which has yet to win a game this month.
