Stephen F. Austin tops Lamar for DI-best 14th straight win
BEAUMONT, Texas -- Thomas Walkup had 18 points and 10 rebounds, fellow senior Trey Pinkney added seven points and Stephen F. Austin beat Lamar 79-58 Monday night to extend the Lumberjacks nation-leading winning streak to 14 games.
The duo became Stephen F. Austin's all-time winningest players with 108 career wins and the Lumberjacks (21-5, 14-0) moved one step closer to clinching their fourth straight Southland Conference title as they hold a three-game lead over Texas A&M-CC (11-3).
Clide Geffrard added 14 points for Stephen F. Austin. T.J. Holyfield and Demetrious Floyd each scored 10 and C.J. Williams grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds as the Lumberjacks outrebounded Lamar 40-29.
Stephen F. Austin built a 52-39 lead as Lamar was held to just 10 points through the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Freshman Josh Nzeakor led Lamar (11-16, 3-12) with 11 points. The Cardinals were just 20-of-55 shooting (34 percent) and turned it over 17 times.
