Grambling Tigers @ Alabama State Hornets
Waters, LeFlore lead Alabama St. past Grambling St. 59-58
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Terrance LeFlore tied a career high with four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points to help Alabama State beat Grambling State 59-58 in the regular-season finale for both teams Saturday.
Jamel Waters added four more 3s and finished with 13 points, while Bobby Brown scored 11 with nine rebounds and three steals for Alabama State.
The Hornets (14-16, 9-9 Southwestern Athletic Conference) led 48-35 with 13:06 to play, but Ervin Mitchell scored seven straight points in the next 60 seconds, trimming Grambling State's deficit to six.
Mitchell had eight points during a 9-2 run that pulled the Tigers (7-23, 4-14) within 53-51 with 6:55 left and his 3-point play with 2:57 remaining, once again, made it a two-point game.
Seconds later, Grambling State was assessed a technical foul for having six players on the court and Waters made the ensuing free throw to make it 59-56.
Nigel Ribeiro's layup with a minute left made it a one-point game, but Mitchell -- who led GSU with a career-high 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting -- missed a deep, potential-winning 3-pointer as time expired.
