Central Arkansas holds off Nicholls 94-83, gets 1st road win
THIBODAUX, La. -- Justin Foreman hit a deep 3-pointer with 1:14 left to give Central Arkansas enough margin to hold off Nicholls 94-83 on Saturday.
Liam Thomas nailed a baseline trey and T.J. Carpenter made two straight layups as Nicholls closed to 81-79 with 2:22 left. Foreman hit his 3-pointer and Central Arkansas made six free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Mathieu Kamba, who finished with 21 points, added an exclamation point when he slammed home a dunk with seven seconds left.
Derreck Brooks nailed five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 29 points to lead Central Arkansas (3-13, 2-4 Southland Conference) to its first road win of the season. Jordan Howard added 16 points.
Central Arkansas had an 18-5 run to lead 73-62 midway in the second period. The Colonels answered with an 11-0 run to close to 79-77 with 3:06 left.
Carpenter had 23 points for Nicholls (5-15, 1-5).
