IPFW beats Western Illinois 87-75, remains alone atop Summit
MACOMB, Ill. -- Max Landis made five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points to lead IPFW to an 87-75 victory over Western Illinois on Thursday night for its fourth-straight win.
Landis was 7 of 14 from the field. John Konchar and Michael Calder added 19 points apiece for IPFW (23-7, 12-3 Summit League), which has its best record as a Division I program, and a one-game lead over South Dakota State atop the league standings. The Mastodons end their regular season Saturday at IUPUI.
Garret Covington scored 26 points on 9-of-20 shooting for Western Illinois (9-17, 2-13).
IPFW opened the second half with a 24-11 run to stretch its lead to 63-47 with 11 minutes left. A 23-14 spurt, capped by Covington's 3, pulled the Leathernecks to 77-70 with 4:28 remaining. Calder answered with a layup and the Mastodons made eight free throws to seal it.
