Jackson State beats Grambling State, 61-58
GRAMBLING, La. -- Raeford Worsham scored 16 points and Jackson State held on to beat Grambling State 61-58 on Saturday night.
Yettra Specks and Javeres Brent each added 10 points for Jackson State (15-12, 10-4 SWAC), which has won three of its last four.
Jackson State shot an efficient 54.3 percent from the field and had 15 assists as a team.
Arnold Richmond led Grambling State (6-20, 3-11) with 20 points. Deonte Hearns added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Grambling State, which has lost nine in a row.
Jackson State had 17-6 run midway through the second half, capped by a Specks jumper, for a 49-36 lead with 11:25 to go.
Grambling State continued to trail by double digits; until two Velario Altheimer free throws sparked an 8-0 run that closed the Tigers to within four with 10 seconds left. But a Worsham free throw on the next trip iced it.
