Okereafor scores 16, Rider beats Houston Baptist 67-56
CANCUN, Mexico -- Teddy Okereafor scored 16, including four 3-pointers, and Xavier Lundy added 11 points to lead Rider to a 67-56 win over Houston Baptist in the Cancun Challenge on Wednesday.
A 3 by Asa Cantwell pulled Houston Baptist (1-5) within two, 18-16, midway through the first half but the Huskies went scoreless over the next 4:56 and, after a layup by Anthony Odunsi with 5:01 left in the half, didn't score again until just 59 seconds before halftime.
Rider (1-4) had a 16-2 run over that nearly nine-minute span and took a 36-22 lead into the break.
Houston Baptist trailed by double digits until Colter Lasher made a pair of free throws with six seconds to play.
Odunsi scored 21, on 7-of-10 shooting, with six rebounds, four assists and three steals for Houston Baptist. Josh Ibarra added 11 points and Reveal Chukwujekwu grabbed 10 rebounds.
