Maitland leads Morehead State to 106-41 win over NAIA foe
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Malik Maitland scored 20 points and Morehead State coasted to a season-opening 106-41 win over NAIA Kentucky Christian on Friday night.
With 13 of 14 players scoring, the Eagles were never threatened, racing to a 21-0 lead five minutes into the game.
Maitland made 7 of 9 shots, including 5 of 6 3-pointers.
The Eagles shot 56 percent from the field, hitting half of their 22 shots from long range. They led 53-16 at the half.
Lamontray Harris grabbed 10 rebounds as Morehead State had a 43-25 advantage on the boards. That led to 56 points in the paint and 13 second chance points. The Knights had 11 points inside and just four points after offensive rebounds.
Brandon Barnes had 17 points and Hayden Dunn 12 for the Knights, who shot 32.5 percent and made just 3 of 19 behind the arc.
