Anderson scores 19, Hines has 14, UMass beats Wagner 62-55
AMHERST, Mass. -- Reserves C.J. Anderson and Malik Hines combined for 33 points and UMass beat Wagner 62-55 on Wednesday night.
Anderson hit 8 of 11 from the field, including three 3-pointers, and scored a career-high 19 points while Hines added career bests of 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Donte Clark added 11 points for UMass.
Clark had a dunk and then Tyrn Flowers stole it from Wagner's Corey Henson before feeding Anderson for another dunk to make it 6-5 and UMass (5-1) never again trailed.
After trailing by as many as 11, Wagner (2-4) tied it on a layup by Mike Aaman with 9:21 to play, but Anderson had a layup and a 3 before a putback dunk by Hines capped a 10-3 run that gave the Minutemen a 57-50 lead with 3:51 remaining. UMass made 5 of 6 free throws from there to seal it.
Aaman scored 17 on 7-of-10 shooting for Wagner.
UMass outscored the Seahawks 40-7 on bench points.
